Bodycam footage was just released from the arrest of a former teacher who eventually admitted to having sex with an 11-year-old boy. Alley Bardfield assaulted the child during “play dates” at her home in Illinois. The 34-year-old also sent the boy sexts over Snapchat and hundreds of dollars on CashApp. She pleaded guilty to the crimes. Law&Crime’s Chris Stewart is On the Case.

Officers of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) were on marked patrol in Hillsborough County. From the FWC boat dock at 5110 W Gandy Blvd, Tampa, an officer observed a center console flats-style vessel producing a large wake in a posted idle speed zone. The vessel was seen on plane, passing the posted idle speed sign from Tampa Bay to the Gandy Boat Ramp. The officer signaled the operator to approach.

The operator, wearing sunglasses, a white hat with “El Capitan,” and dark shorts, reduced speed to idle and approached the FWC boat dock. The officer identified himself and noted a young boy (the operator's nine-year-old son) and the operator’s fiancé holding an almost 18-month-old child in a life jacket. Alcoholic beverage containers were observed around the helm station.

When asked if he knew why he was stopped, the operator acknowledged his speed, saying, “Maybe because I was above the posted speed,” and pointed back to the sign. The officer explained the observations and the operator responded, “My bad.” The operator informed the officer of a firearm in the console, using the term “signal zero,” and was asked for his license and vessel registration. The operator mentioned being from Lakeland and showed his Polk County Sheriff's Office badge before providing his driver’s license. He said the vessel registration was in his truck.

The officer conducted a vessel safety inspection, requesting life jackets and a sound-producing device. The operator produced two life jackets and a mooring line, explaining the line was for docking. The operator’s fiancé confirmed their daughter's life jacket, and the operator showed his son's life jacket but not a sound-producing device. He later produced a whistle and a fire extinguisher, with his fiancé assisting in replacing the extinguisher in its box.

The operator and his fiancé confirmed they had been alone since around 8:30 am. When asked about coolers or livewells, the operator mentioned a cooler in the front and consented to an inspection. The officer conducted a consensual inspection of the cooler and livewell.

The officer advised on-scene supervisors of a possible Boating Under the Influence (BUI) case. The officer discussed the busy weekend and the operator’s alcohol consumption, who admitted to drinking and consented to Standard Field Sobriety Tasks (SFSTs). The SFSTs were performed on a patrol vessel in calm waters, with the operator seated on a stable cooler.

After completing the SFSTs, the officer instructed the operator to put on his shoes and shirt and accompany him to the dock. The operator was informed of his arrest for BUI. The officer noted the strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech, balance issues, and watery eyes.

The vessel was released to the operator’s fiancé, who was assisted by other FWC officers. The operator consented to a breath sample, with results of 0.156 and 0.165, taken approximately one hour after the initial stop. The operator admitted to drinking 4-5 drinks, starting around 9:30 am and stopping around 1 pm.

In accordance with Florida Statute 327.35(1)(c), the operator was charged with operating a vessel with an unlawful breath alcohol level of 0.08 or higher. His breath samples exceeded 0.150, and he had two persons under 18 years of age onboard, warranting enhanced penalties.

The operator was charged with:

(V793723) F.S.S. 327.35(1)(c) - Operating a vessel with an unlawful breath alcohol level of 0.08 or higher.

This video is body worn camera video from Sarasota Police Department case 21-033180 on Sunday, June 20, 2021.

This is an ongoing internal affairs investigation. As soon as the Office of the Chief of Police was notified, an internal affairs investigation began immediately. In the utmost sense of transparency, we are releasing the body worn camera video. As a reminder, audio begins 30 seconds after the body worn camera is activated.

At about 7 pm on Sunday, two Sarasota Police officers on foot patrol contacted 32-year-old Malcom Johnson at Fredd Atkins Park. Johnson was wanted on a felony warrant out of Manatee County. On the body worn camera video, officers explain to Johnson he is wanted on a warrant and was going to be placed under arrest.

Johnson is seen on body worn camera video resisting while officers attempted to take him into custody and he refused to follow the officers commands. During Johnson’s resisting, one officer was injured, and another officer had his body worn camera knocked off. Johnson was eventually taken into custody and transported to one of the officer’s cars.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Travis Forrester in the Sarasota Police Department Internal Affairs Unit at 941-263-6027.

A woman disguised in black robbed a Florida bank and nearly escaped, but surveillance footage quickly led police to a Camaro driven by former sheriff’s deputy Christina Thagard. Despite repeatedly insisting officers had the wrong person, investigators recovered the hoodie, the robbery note, and her fingerprints linking her to the crime. Thagard was indicted, later pled guilty, and now awaits sentencing, facing up to 20 years in federal prison. Law&Crime’s Elizabeth Millner goes Inside the Crime.

Surveillance video showed a patient actively loading a firearm early Wednesday morning inside the emergency room at Blake Hospital in Bradenton, police say. A staff member called 911 at 2:16 a.m. and reported the woman was seen on camera loading a gun in her purse.

Authorities say they were on their way to the hospital within a minute of the 911 call, with the first officer showing up by 2:20 a.m. and rushing in through an ambulance bay.

A security guard was also there and seized the handgun, police said. More police officers arrived and surrounded the woman, who was arrested.

The Bradenton Police Department said investigators seized a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380 handgun with an incorporated laser.

"The suspect’s purse contained one high-capacity (50 round) drum-style magazine with 36 loaded rounds; two magazines containing a total of 13 loaded rounds; and 14 loose rounds," the police department wrote in an email. "Additional witnesses stated they observed the suspect loading what appeared to be bullets into a magazine."

The woman was identified by police as 37-year-old Jamekeyra Ulisa Levertt-Chapman of Sarasota. She was charged with two felonies: introducing a firearm into a hospital and possession of a concealed weapon without a concealed weapon permit.

Residents and staff at a Bradenton nursing home were jolted awake early when a man rammed his car into the front of the building.

That man, according to Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells, shot at employees and tried to shoot his way into the building before being confronted by deputies.

After exchanging gunfire with the sheriff's office, he is in custody and one deputy is recovering at the hospital, Wells said in a press conference.

The man's violent actions and attempts to "kill one of my deputies" made Wells "redneck mad," he said.

It all started just before 3:30 a.m. when dispatchers got a 911 call from an employee at the Aspire nursing home facility on Cortez Road West. The employee reportedly said a car had crashed into the front of the building and the driver got out and loaded a handgun.

Another employee reportedly approached the man, who Wells identified as 40-year-old Sean Calcutti, and tried to talk to him. Calcutti responded by shooting at the employee, Wells said.

"By the grace of God," the employee wasn't hit and was able to retreat into the nursing home, lock the doors and get to a safe place, the sheriff said.

But for whatever reason, Calcutti was determined to get inside and was shooting at the windows while deputies were en route, Wells said. He reportedly hid as he heard law enforcement coming.

Both Manatee County deputies and officers with Bradenton Police responded to the 911 call and began to search for Calcutti, Wells said. They quickly found him on the east side of the building. Deputies reportedly told him to show his hands and get on the ground.

Instead, "this ‘dirtbag’ decides it’s better for him to just start firing at my deputies,” Wells said.

Wells said deputies returned fire before one of them was hit in the arm. While another deputy sprang into action to provide medical aid, Calcutti took off.

Reinforcements arrived to help search for Calcutti, Wells said, including a K-9 unit from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Around 5:45 a.m., deputies found Calcutti and took him into custody. Wells said he was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but stressed Calcutti was not shot or injured.

Wells credits the quick actions of his deputy, who was off-duty and on the way home when he responded, to aid his colleague when he was shot. He even took it upon himself to drive the injured deputy to the hospital.

Both deputies will be on administrative leave per policy as the investigation is underway.

Calcutti faces numerous charges, including attempted murder, attempted murder of law enforcement and armed burglary, Wells said.

Investigators say there's no apparent connection between the nursing home and Calcutti, and his motivation for the attack isn't known.

The sheriff added Calcutti has an "extensive" criminal history in both New York and Florida.

"He should not, in my opinion, even be walking the streets of Manatee County," Wells added
